The Winning Entry:
This holiday I would like to see my hero.
I'm fourteen and my hero should be my mom or someone like that - but my hero is my little brother. I consider him my hero because heroes keep you strong. That is what he does for me - and he is only seven.
Last year, due to personal reasons, my mom had to move back to Liberia where we are from. That turned my world upside down. My brother had to go move to Houstion with his father and I stayed here in Louisville with one of my mom's very close friends.
My brother and mom have been my everything sice he was born. I go to Houstion during the summers to be with him but the holidays are hard. Even when it was just the three of us, it was all we needed. My brother has had to spend his last two birthdays without me or my mom and I know that has been hard on him. But I am thankful for his dad and new step-mother. They give both of us the love we need. They treat me as their own. I consider them my parents as well. From the day I heard about this contest I have been praying to God that I will be able to see him. And at this point that is all I can do...
